Frequently Asked Questions

Contemplating on beginning your therapeutic journey with us?

These FAQs may help you feel more confident in taking the first step.

What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is called an “intake”.

It’s a chance for us to get to know you—your history, current concerns, and what brings you in. It is primarily focused on gathering information.

It is also our first opportunity to start forming a trusting, collaborative relationship.

Therapeutic interventions typically begin in the second or third session.

How much does therapy cost?

Please refer to our Services page to review our transparent pricing.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, Unraveling Minds Psychotherapy & Counseling does not accept insurance.

However, please reach out to Zoraida Araujo if you have Aetna or Cigna. She is able to offer services at a different practice through those insurances.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We offer flexible payment options, including credit card, HSA and FSA.

Superbills are also available upon request for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement. Please mention this during your consultation if interested.

What if I cannot afford therapy but need help?

We have a limited number of sliding scale / low cost spots available to support access to care, ranging from $55-$85 per session.

Please feel free to ask during your consultation if you’d like to learn more.

We are also happy to accommodate payment processing within 30 days of service.

Please let us know which day/s of the month you prefer your session payments to be processed.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies for everyone.

It depends on your needs, goals, and how things progress along the way. There’s no set number of sessions for therapy to 'work,' but we typically recommend starting with at least 8 weekly sessions to build momentum and get the most out of the process.

Our goal is to help you feel more confident and capable over time—not to keep you in therapy longer than necessary. We’ll check in regularly about your progress and decide together when it feels right to reduce or end sessions.

Remember—you have agency over your therapeutic journey. We're here to support you, but you make the final call.

Do you offer in-person and/or online sessions?

We offer in-person sessions across two locations in San Antonio, TX and online sessions across the state of Texas.

Availability for in-person sessions may differ from online options, depending on your needs and our schedules.

We’ll go over your scheduling details during your free 15-minute virtual consultation.

How do virtual/online sessions work?

We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform called Carepatron for online therapy.

Before your online session, you’ll receive a text and/or email reminder with a personalized secure link which will open directly in your web browser. You can join by phone, laptop, or tablet.

We highly encourage you to download the Carepatron app. It makes scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling sessions easier and gives you secure access to your private portal where you can find your documents, billing details, and more.

Is everything I share with my therapist confidential?

Yes, everything you share with your therapist is confidential and protected by law, with a few important exceptions.

Confidentiality may be broken if there’s:

  • a serious risk of harm to yourself or others,

  • concerns about abuse or neglect,

  • if required by a court order

Additionally, we may consult with our licensed colleagues if necessary to provide you with the best care, but we will never share your name or any identifying details.

Click here to schedule your free, 15-minute virtual consulation to assess if you and the therapist of your choice are a good fit.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Yes. We schedule sessions as late as 7pm during the week and offer Saturday sessions based on need. However, each therapist’s availability and schedule varies.

What happens if I am running late for my appointment?

For online sessions, we reserve the right to consider the session a “no show” if you are late by 15 minutes and may charge a full session fee based on our cancellation policy.

For in-person sessions, we understand unexpected traffic may pose a challenge. Therefore, the session will be considered a “no show” if you are late by 30 minutes and may be charged a full session fee based on our cancellation policy.

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

Not every therapist can be a good therapeutic fit for everyone. You have agency to “shop around” for the therapist that you feel is an appropriate fit for your needs. This is why we offer free, 15-minute virtual consultations, which allow both you and your therapist to assess if it is a good therapeutic match.

If your preferred therapist does not feel equipped to support your specific needs, you will be provided with appropriate referrals that may be better suited.

Had a couple of sessions and feeling differently about your decision?

That’s ok! We encourage you to self-advocate and won’t take it personally. In the event you do not want to proceed with your current therapist, you will be provided with appropriate referrals as soon as possible.

Can I stop therapy at any time?

Absolutely. Therapy is voluntary.

You are free to pause or decline any question at any time during sessions or choose to permanently or briefly end services.
